How did this project come about?

I was approached with a cold phone call January 1st 2007 by one of the organizers from the Gettysburg Anniversary Committee, Tony Strickland, seeing if I would ever be interested in talking to them about the upcoming 145th event and shooting a video for them. I was very excited about the possibility and I sent the group a proposal and I kind of let the ball drop as I worked on a few other films at the time. I called Tony again the first of June 2007 and was able to reconnect and set up a meeting in Gettysburg with Tony and the other two principals at G.A.C., Randy Phiel and George Lomas. I presented a modest budget (I wanted the gig) and plan and they seemed to like what I had to offer.

We hammered out an agreement, and I began by shooting some B-roll at the 144th event. I spent the fall and winter working with my historian and writing partner John D. Pagano on a script for the film and as we moved into 2008, we aimed for the staged shoots and the big 145th event.
